A blog about what daily life was really like in the Middle East and the daily ramblings of an ex-pat mum. That's how I started the blog. We are now home, so I'm just going to continue with life here. I am a deeply committed Christian. I love to teach about and share my faith so you'll see some of that on the blog as well. Got a comment? Please feel to comment at the end of a post. Stop apologizing about your house

Being overseas for years I know changed me. A long time close friend (we've known each other like 14 years now), told me, "You've changed." Well, yeah. But, I think I've changed more than I realized at first.

One of the things I have been working on is making new friends and becoming reacquainted with old ones. So...I have spent quite a bit of time visiting friends in their homes. I am totally blown away by how much American women apologize about the state of their homes.

I don't care if you have a pile of clean laundry on the sofa. I don't care if the dishes in the sink are dirty. I don't care if your scrapbooking stuff is spread all over your dining room table. Cockroaches running around? Well, that might bother me a bit. Are we all gossiping about each other's houses behind each other's backs? I hope not. Wow, how shallow.

Why do American women do this to themselves? I don't work currently, and I totally understand how hard it is to keep a house tidy while trying to get kids to their activities, and help with homework, and get food on the table, and keep up with the laundry, and take care of the pets and and and...... Give yourselves a break!

I know I am deeply guilty of doing the apology thing about my house. Being overseas changed me. And this is one of the changes.

Peace.
